Lauritz Tuxen — Danish, 1853–1927 — Danish Realism / Skagen Painters
Lauritz Tuxen was a Danish painter best known for his large ceremonial group portraits of European royalty, commissioned by Queen Victoria, Christian IX of Denmark, and the Russian imperial court. Trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and later in Paris under Léon Bonnat, he absorbed the polished naturalism of the French academic tradition while retaining a Northern attention to interior light.
