Constant Troyon — French, 1810–1865 — Barbizon School
Constant Troyon began his career as a porcelain painter at the Sèvres manufactory before turning to landscape painting in the 1830s. He became associated with the Barbizon School through his friendships with Théodore Rousseau and Jules Dupré, working in the forest of Fontainebleau and across Normandy. A trip to the Netherlands in 1847, where he studied Paulus Potter and Albert Cuyp, redirected his focus toward animal painting.
