Cecilio Pla y Gallardo was a Valencian-born painter associated with the generation of Spanish luminists working in the orbit of Joaquín Sorolla. Trained at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid under Emilio Sala, he developed a fluent, light-filled manner suited to genre scenes, portraits, beach subjects, and allegorical compositions.
