William Wendt — American, 1865–1946 — California Impressionism
William Wendt was a leading figure of the California plein air movement and is often called the dean of Southern California landscape painters. Born in Germany, he emigrated to the United States as a teenager and was largely self-taught, settling in Los Angeles in 1906 after years working in Chicago.
