Käthe Kollwitz worked primarily in printmaking and drawing, producing some of the most unflinching images of poverty, grief, and war made in the twentieth century. Trained in Berlin and Munich, she came to public attention with the print cycle A Weavers' Revolt in the late 1890s, followed by the Peasants' War series.
