Madeleine Jeanne Lemaire — French, 1845–1928 — French Academic Realism
Madeleine Lemaire was a French painter best known for her watercolors of flowers, particularly roses, which earned her Alexandre Dumas fils's quip that she had created more roses than anyone save God. Trained under her aunt Madame Herbelin and influenced by Charles Chaplin, she exhibited regularly at the Salon from the 1860s onward and was named an Officer of the Legion of Honour in 1906.
