Richard Lorenz — Austrian-American, 1858–1915 — American Western Art
Richard Lorenz was an Austrian-trained painter who became one of the principal interpreters of the American West from his base in Milwaukee. Born in Voigtstadt, Germany, and educated at the Weimar art academy, he emigrated to Wisconsin in 1886 to assist with panorama painting, then established an independent practice depicting cavalry, cowboys, plains horses, and frontier landscapes.
