Carlos Schwabe — Swiss-German, 1866–1926 — Symbolism
Carlos Schwabe was a Swiss painter and printmaker associated with the Symbolist movement in late nineteenth-century France. Born in Altona and raised in Geneva, he settled in Paris in the 1880s and became a central figure in the Salon de la Rose+Croix, designing the poster for its inaugural 1892 exhibition. His work draws on allegory, religious mysticism, and the natural world, often rendering ethereal female figures, lilies, and visionary landscapes with meticulous precision.
