René François Xavier Prinet was a French painter associated with the academic tradition that persisted alongside the rise of modernism in late nineteenth-century Paris. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts under Gérôme, he became known for genre scenes, interiors, and beach subjects depicting the bourgeois life of coastal Normandy, particularly Cabourg. His work balances careful draftsmanship with a softened, atmospheric handling of light that reflects an awareness of Impressionism without abandoning academic structure.
