Old Man With A Cat
Giacomo Ceruti — Italian, 1698–1767 — Italian Late Baroque / Realism
Giacomo Ceruti, known as Il Pitocchetto ("the little beggar") for his unflinching depictions of the poor, worked primarily in Brescia, Milan, and Venice during the first half of the eighteenth century. His most distinctive contribution lies in a series of life-size paintings of beggars, peasants, laborers, and mendicants — figures rendered with sober dignity rather than caricature or sentiment.
