Albert Anker — Swiss, 1831–1910 — Swiss Realism

Albert Anker is widely regarded as Switzerland's national painter, known for quiet genre scenes of rural life in the Bernese countryside. Trained in Paris under Charles Gleyre and active during the second half of the nineteenth century, he divided his career between the French capital and his native village of Ins, where he kept a studio in the family home.
