Ny Met Demuth Figure 5 Gold

Charles Demuth — American, 1883–1935 — American Precisionism

Charles Demuth was a central figure in American Precisionism, the interwar movement that translated industrial subjects into a hard-edged, geometric idiom indebted to Cubism. Based largely in his native Lancaster, Pennsylvania, he moved between watercolors of flowers, fruit, and vaudeville performers and tempera paintings of factories, grain elevators, and church towers rendered with crystalline precision.
