Musical Abstraction Albert Eugene Gallatin
Albert Eugene Gallatin — American, 1881–1952 — American Abstraction; Concretism
Albert Eugene Gallatin came to painting late, after years as a collector and critic. Born into a prominent New York family, he was a great-grandson of the statesman Albert Gallatin and trained in law before turning to the arts. In 1927 he founded the Gallery of Living Art at New York University, one of the first public collections in the United States dedicated to contemporary European modernism, including Picasso, Léger, Mondrian, and Arp.
