John Trumbull — American, 1756–1843 — American Neoclassicism
Trumbull is best known as the painter of the American Revolution, producing a series of historical scenes intended to document the founding of the United States with eyewitness authority. The son of a Connecticut governor and a Harvard graduate, he served briefly as an aide-de-camp to George Washington before training in London under Benjamin West.
