Willard Metcalf — American, 1858–1925 — American Impressionism
Willard Metcalf was a New England landscape painter and a founding member of The Ten, the group of American Impressionists who broke from the Society of American Artists in 1898. Trained in Boston and at the Académie Julian in Paris, he spent time at Giverny in the late 1880s before settling into a career devoted to the rural scenery of Vermont, New Hampshire, Connecticut, and Maine.
