Moonlit Landscape With Bridge Aert Van Der Neer
Aert Van Der Neer — Dutch, 1603–1677 — Dutch Golden Age
Aert van der Neer was an Amsterdam landscape painter who built an unusual specialty around two narrow subjects: moonlit nocturnes and winter scenes with skaters on frozen canals. His night landscapes, lit by a low moon breaking through clouds over still water, are among the earliest sustained explorations of nocturnal atmosphere in European painting.
