Sir Edward Burne Jones — British, 1833–1898 — Pre-Raphaelite / Aesthetic Movement
Edward Burne-Jones was a central figure in the second wave of the Pre-Raphaelite movement and a defining presence in late Victorian British art. Trained at Oxford, where he met William Morris, he turned from theology to painting under the mentorship of Dante Gabriel Rossetti. His mature work draws on medieval romance, Arthurian legend, and classical mythology, rendered in cool, attenuated figures and muted, jewel-like color.
