Meadow Flowers John Henry Twachtman
John Henry Twachtman — American, 1853–1902 — American Impressionism; The Ten
Twachtman trained in Cincinnati under Frank Duveneck before continuing his studies in Munich and later at the Académie Julian in Paris, where exposure to Whistler and the French Impressionists reshaped his palette toward soft greys, whites, and muted greens. After settling on a farm in Greenwich, Connecticut in the late 1880s, he painted the surrounding landscape repeatedly across the seasons, returning often to Horseneck Brook and the Hemlock Pool.
