Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun was among the most accomplished portraitists of the late eighteenth century, working at the intersection of late Rococo grace and emerging Neoclassical restraint. Trained largely by her father, the pastelist Louis Vigée, she established her practice in Paris and became a favored portraitist of Marie Antoinette, producing more than thirty likenesses of the queen.
