Jozsef Rippl Ronai — Hungarian, 1861–1927 — Hungarian Post-Impressionism / Les Nabis
Rippl-Rónai was among the first Hungarian painters to absorb the innovations of the Parisian avant-garde and translate them into a distinctly Central European idiom. After studying under Munkácsy in the late 1880s, he settled in Paris and joined the circle of Les Nabis alongside Bonnard, Vuillard and Maillol, contributing to their interest in flattened space, decorative pattern and intimate domestic subjects.
