Spencer Gore was an English painter and the founding president of the Camden Town Group, formed in London in 1911. Trained at the Slade School of Fine Art, he absorbed the lessons of Gauguin, Cézanne, and the French Post-Impressionists shown at Roger Fry's landmark London exhibitions, translating their structural color into distinctly English subjects.
