Édouard Cortès was a Parisian painter known almost exclusively for his views of Paris streetscapes, painted across more than six decades. Born in Lagny-sur-Marne to a family of artists—his father had served as court painter to the Spanish king—Cortès trained in the academic tradition before exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Français beginning in 1901.
