Richard Parkes Bonington — British, 1802–1828 — English Romanticism
Bonington was an English painter who spent most of his short working life in France, where he became a central figure in the Anglo-French exchange that shaped Romantic landscape painting. Trained in Calais and Paris under Louis Francia and later Antoine-Jean Gros, he developed a fluid watercolor technique and a distinctive clarity of light that influenced Delacroix, with whom he shared a studio.
