Rosso Fiorentino — Italian, 1494–1540 — Florentine Mannerism
Giovanni Battista di Jacopo, called Rosso Fiorentino for his red hair, was among the founding figures of Italian Mannerism. Trained in Florence in the orbit of Andrea del Sarto, he developed an idiosyncratic style marked by elongated figures, acidic color, and a deliberate strain of emotional intensity that broke decisively from High Renaissance balance.
