Marie Louise Ekman — Swedish, born 1944 — Swedish Pop and Narrative Figuration
Marie-Louise Ekman is a Swedish painter, filmmaker, and theatre director whose work draws on Pop art, naïve figuration, and a distinctly personal narrative sensibility. Working in Stockholm since the late 1960s, she developed a recognizable visual language of flat color, patterned surfaces, and domestic scenes populated by anthropomorphic animals, family members, and recurring stand-in figures.
