George Morland — British, 1763–1804 — British Genre and Rural Painting
George Morland was an English painter known for rustic genre scenes depicting stable interiors, country inns, gypsy encampments, and the daily labor of farm life. The son of painter Henry Robert Morland, he showed precocious talent and exhibited at the Royal Academy as a teenager. He worked primarily in oil on small to mid-sized canvases, favoring warm earth tones, loose handling, and grouped figures arranged around horses, peasants, or smugglers along the southern English coast.
