Edgar Payne — American, 1883–1947 — California Plein-Air Impressionism
Edgar Payne was a largely self-taught painter who became one of the central figures of the California plein-air movement in the early twentieth century. Born in Washburn, Missouri, he traveled widely before settling in the West, working from Laguna Beach, where he helped found the Laguna Beach Art Association in 1918.
