Eugen Felix Prosper Bracht — German, 1842–1921 — German Realism / Düsseldorf School
Eugen Bracht was a German landscape and history painter associated with the late nineteenth-century shift from academic Romanticism toward a more austere realism. Born in Morges, Switzerland, to German parents, he trained in Karlsruhe under Hans Gude and later under Johann Wilhelm Schirmer. A formative journey through Egypt, Palestine, and Syria in 1880–81 produced a sustained body of Orientalist landscapes, including biblical desert scenes that drew wide attention in Berlin.
