Anna Ancher was a central figure of the Skagen Painters, the colony of Scandinavian artists who gathered in the fishing village at Denmark's northern tip in the late nineteenth century. Born in Skagen and the only member of the group native to the town, she trained at Vilhelm Kyhn's drawing school in Copenhagen and briefly in Paris.
