Stanley Royle was an English landscape painter associated with the Sheffield art scene, where he trained at the Sheffield School of Art and later taught. His work is characterized by a sustained interest in the effects of natural light, particularly snow scenes, woodland interiors, and pastoral subjects rendered in broken, high-keyed brushwork that reflects an awareness of Impressionist practice filtered through a northern English sensibility.
