Walter Leistikow — German, 1865–1908 — German Impressionism / Jugendstil
Walter Leistikow was a German landscape painter and graphic artist central to the emergence of modernism in Berlin at the turn of the twentieth century. Trained briefly at the Berlin Academy, he found his subject in the quiet lakes and pine forests of the Mark Brandenburg, particularly the Grunewald, which he rendered in flattened silhouettes, restrained palettes, and rhythmic contours that owed as much to Jugendstil decoration as to Scandinavian landscape painting.
