Walter Gay — American, 1856–1937 — American Expatriate Realism

Walter Gay was an American painter who spent most of his career in France, where he became known for refined interior scenes of European aristocratic homes. Born in Hingham, Massachusetts, he trained in Paris under Léon Bonnat in the late 1870s and initially painted Breton peasant subjects in the academic Salon tradition.
