John Duncan was a Scottish painter central to the Celtic Revival, the movement that sought to reconnect Scottish visual culture with its Gaelic mythological and spiritual heritage. Born in Dundee, he trained there and in Antwerp and Düsseldorf before settling in Edinburgh, where he became closely associated with Patrick Geddes and the circle around the Outlook Tower.
