Emil Barbarini — Austrian, 1855–1933 — Late Romantic Genre Painting
Emil Barbarini was an Austrian painter known for atmospheric urban scenes of Vienna and Paris, particularly views of flower markets, boulevards, and street life under rain or evening light. He worked primarily in oil and watercolor, often signing pieces under his own name as well as the pseudonym Emil Bonatti. His compositions favor soft tonal transitions, wet pavements that catch reflected light, and figures engaged in ordinary commerce — vendors, pedestrians, carriage traffic.
