Childe Hassam — American, 1859–1935 — American Impressionism
Childe Hassam was the most prolific and visible American Impressionist of his generation, producing more than three thousand paintings, watercolors, etchings, and lithographs over a career spanning five decades. Trained in Boston and refined during a stay in Paris from 1886 to 1889, he absorbed the broken color and atmospheric concerns of the French Impressionists while maintaining a structural clarity rooted in his American training.
