George Grosz — German-American, 1893–1959 — New Objectivity / Berlin Dada
George Grosz was a central figure in the Weimar-era German avant-garde, known for caustic drawings and paintings that documented the social wreckage of post-World War I Berlin. A founding member of Berlin Dada and later associated with Neue Sachlichkeit, he developed a sharp linear style indebted to caricature, rendering profiteers, prostitutes, generals, and crippled veterans with unsparing exactness.
