Julien Dupre — French, 1851–1910 — French Naturalism
Julien Dupré belonged to the generation of French Naturalist painters who succeeded Millet and Bastien-Lepage in depicting rural labor with documentary attention. Trained under Désiré François Laugée, Isidore Pils, and Henri Lehmann at the École des Beaux-Arts, he made his Salon debut in 1876 and built his career on scenes of peasants haymaking, milking, and tending cattle in the fields of Picardy and Normandy.
