William Louis Sonntag — American, 1822–1900 — Hudson River School
William Louis Sonntag was an American landscape painter associated with the second generation of the Hudson River School. Born in East Liberty, Pennsylvania, and raised in Cincinnati, he established his reputation painting the Ohio River Valley, the Allegheny Mountains, and the wilderness of West Virginia and Kentucky before relocating to New York in 1857.
