Cornelis Van Poelenburgh — Dutch, 1594/95–1667 — Dutch Italianate Landscape
Cornelis van Poelenburgh was a leading figure among the first generation of Dutch painters who traveled to Rome and developed an Italianate landscape idiom on their return. He was in Italy from around 1617 to 1625, where he studied antique sculpture, the Roman Campagna, and the work of Adam Elsheimer, becoming a founding member of the Bentvueghels.
