Rembrandt Peale — American, 1778–1860 — American Neoclassicism
Rembrandt Peale was an American portrait painter and museum proprietor who worked across the early decades of the Republic, producing likenesses of nearly every major founding-era figure. The second son of Charles Willson Peale, he trained in his father's Philadelphia studio and refined his practice in London under Benjamin West and in Paris, where he absorbed the polish of French Neoclassical portraiture.
