Jean-Louis Forain was a French painter, printmaker, and caricaturist who moved between the orbit of the Impressionists and the satirical tradition of Daumier. He studied briefly under Jean-Léon Gérôme and formed early friendships with Manet, Degas, and the poet Rimbaud, exhibiting in four of the Impressionist exhibitions between 1879 and 1886.
