George Copeland Ault — American, 1891–1948 — American Precisionism
George Copeland Ault was an American painter associated with the Precisionist movement, though his work occupies a darker, more solitary register than that of contemporaries like Charles Sheeler or Charles Demuth. Born in Cleveland and raised partly in London, Ault settled in New York and later in Woodstock, where he produced the spare nocturnes and rural scenes for which he is best remembered.
