Hans Dahl — Norwegian, 1849–1937 — Norwegian Romantic Nationalism
Hans Dahl trained at the Karlsruhe and Düsseldorf academies before settling for much of his career in Berlin and at his villa on the Sognefjord. He worked within the late Romantic tradition of Norwegian landscape painting, focusing almost exclusively on the western fjords and the figures who lived along them—young women in folk dress on hillsides, fishermen, sunlit boats on calm water.
