William Samuel Horton — American, 1865–1936 — American Impressionism
William Samuel Horton was an American Impressionist painter who spent much of his working life abroad, particularly in France and England. Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, he studied at the Art Students League in New York and later in Paris at the Académie Julian. Horton developed a high-keyed palette and broken brushwork suited to landscape, coastal scenes, and views of Alpine snow, which became a recurring subject after his travels in Switzerland.
