Titian — Italian, c. 1488–1576 — Venetian Renaissance
Titian, born Tiziano Vecellio, was the dominant painter of the Venetian school for most of the sixteenth century and the figure through whom Venetian colorism entered the broader European tradition. Trained in the workshop of Giovanni Bellini and shaped early by his association with Giorgione, he matured into a versatile master of altarpieces, mythologies, and portraits, serving patrons that included the Habsburg emperor Charles V and Philip II of Spain.
