Isaak Brodsky was a Russian and Soviet painter who became one of the foundational figures of early Socialist Realism. Trained at the Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg under Ilya Repin, he absorbed the rigorous draftsmanship and psychological attention of the late Russian realist tradition before adapting that vocabulary to the iconography of the new Soviet state.
