Max Liebermann — German, 1847–1935 — German Impressionism
Max Liebermann was a leading figure of German Impressionism and one of the most influential artists in Berlin during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Trained in Weimar and shaped by extended stays in the Netherlands and France, he absorbed the plein-air realism of the Barbizon painters and the loose handling of the French Impressionists, adapting both to a distinctly northern European sensibility.
