John Folinsbee was a central figure of the New Hope school, the loose community of landscape painters who worked along the Delaware River in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, during the first half of the twentieth century. Paralyzed from the waist down following a swimming accident in adolescence, he painted from a wheelchair and often from his car.
