Ernest Townsend — British, 1880–1944 — British Portraiture
Ernest Townsend was an English portrait painter associated with Derby, where he maintained his studio for much of his career. Trained at the Royal Academy Schools in London, he worked in an academic realist tradition, producing commissioned portraits of civic dignitaries, military figures, and members of the local gentry. His work is held in the collection of Derby Museum and Art Gallery, including portraits documenting the city's public life in the early twentieth century.
