Louis Joseph Raphael Collin — French, 1850–1916 — French Academic Naturalism
Louis Joseph Raphael Collin trained at the École des Beaux-Arts under William-Adolphe Bouguereau and Alexandre Cabanel, absorbing the discipline of academic figure painting before moving toward a softer, plein-air-inflected naturalism. He worked primarily in Paris during the late nineteenth century, exhibiting regularly at the Salon, where he received a medal in 1873 and further honors through the 1880s.
